Abstract

In general, ordinary people are of the view that being religious is doing yadnya in the form of a ceremony. In good economic conditions, this will not cause problems, but in declining economic conditions, it will have an impact on decreasing sincerity and sincerity in giving. Thus, it is deemed necessary to instill the concept of religion in accordance with the guidance of the holy books. This study aims to describe character education in the actualization of yadnya in the Traditional Village of Perang, Lukluk Village, Mengwi District, Badung. This study employed a qualitative approach by collecting data from observation, interviews, and literature review. The findings show that an understanding of the three basic frameworks, namely, philosophy/tattwa, moral ethics and yadnya needs to be socialized to the community, especially community leaders such as stakeholders, srati and uperengga who are directly involved in many ceremonial activities. According to the Bhagawad Gita and Veda, yadnya is not only carrying out offering ceremonies, but working, socializing and all activities carried out sincerely for the welfare and peace and happiness of all beings, including yadnya. Thus, when interacting in all things, it is necessary to have ethics/morals in accordance with the basic framework of Hinduism, because character education comes from religious and cultural education in society. Thus, yadnya provides maximum benefits in accordance with the purpose of performing the yadnya, namely, as a form of devotion and gratitude to God Almighty for all His blessings and grace in all things.

Abstract

Hindus consider cutting teeth known as the mesangih ceremony as an important ceremony to signify maturity and to help control lust. The procedure for the traditional tooth-cutting ceremony consists of filing the teeth three times, sharpening them, and then trimming them. This filing is on the four maxillary incisors and two left and right canines. According to published literature, traditional tools such as chisels, hammers, files, and sangian are used to carry out the ritual tradition of cutting teeth. This study aims to clarify the effect of dental filing on oral health. To achieve the research objectives, this study used a descriptive qualitative approach to describe tooth structure. The data source uses primary data, which is based on existing data from books and journals and then associated with the tradition of cutting teeth or mesangih. There are several impacts of cutting teeth on dental health, namely tooth enamel damage, gum damage, and reduced tooth function. There are several ways to avoid the impact of cutting teeth on dental and oral health including (1) need to maintain healthy teeth and mouth from before to after the implementation of mesangih; (2) organize training or procedures for the implementation of mesangih for sangging in terms of spiritual and health meaning. If this data is done, then every Hindu can carry out the tooth-cutting ceremony safely and comfortably in accordance with the rules of hereditary literature without breaking down existing health rules.

Abstract

The Patanjali Sutra Yoga teachings are not only gestures but also give the mandate to the existence of body and mind. A priest at the time of nganteb upakara was likened to a "mayoga" (in Balinese) that is, carrying out parts of the yoga teachings. The body is not only a construction of skeletal bones, muscles, flesh, and organs themselves. But the body can be seen and interpreted from several points of view. In Hinduism, there are three layers of the human body called Tri Sarira, namely sthula sarira, suksma sarira, and antahkarana sarira. The purpose of this article is to find out the implications of yoga teachings for the priest in the aspect of Tri Sarira. This research uses a qualitative approach with an interpretive paradigm. The results of this study show that the yoga teachings for the priest in Bali meaningfully have implications for physical and psychological influences on three layers of the body called Tri Sarira, namely sthula sarira (rough body), suksma sarira (subtle body), and antah karana sarira (causative body). The yogic teachings practiced by religious leader on sthula sarira (rough body) have implications on the body such as an upright sitting posture. Therefore, getting into the habit of taking a comfortable sitting posture upright for the priest will reduce symptoms and improve the bending of the spine. The yoga teachings practiced by the priest on suksma sarira (subtle body) have implications for inner satisfaction for the priest for being able to help others. The yoga teachings practiced by the priest in the middle of nowhere karana sarira (causal body) have implications for increasing awareness of the quality of life as a human being because it is an obligation to always be ethical and do good in serving the people. So, it can be concluded that the teachings of yoga have implications for the activities of the priest.

Abstract

Hindus believe in union with Brahman as the ultimate goal of life, the source of all life. The Balinese have always infused these ideas into knowledge that is considered confidential. Because readers struggle to understand and those who put it into practice require the presence of a near-perfectly competent teacher. Lack of attention to traditional Balinese texts containing metaphysical ideas and knowledge of perfection is the background of this study. This study is an attempt to describe the relationship between humans and beings from a metaphysical point of view in the form of a traditional text, the Tutur Brahmokta Widhisastra. The Tutur Brahmokta Widhisastra is one of his Siwaist-style texts that strongly expresses Kalepasan idea as one of the concepts of the relationship between humans and beings. The qualitative approach used in this study focuses on a philosophical approach that uses hermeneutic research methods to reveal the metaphysical ideas contained in Tutur Brahmokta Widisastra. Based on the critical analysis carried out, the relationship between humans and beings in Tutur Brahmokta Widisastra, the relationship between humans and beings in the human body and organs, becomes the stana of the gods and as the immovable mover of Shivaism. Kalepasan as a concept of union requires the performer to be able to understand the positions of the organs of the human body as the Sthana of the gods. In addition, people also need to understand the urips and scriptures (aksara) that represent each organ, each god. After full understanding and practice become possible, people will undoubtedly connect with beings through the path of pranayama and yoga.

Abstract

The phenomenon of intolerance and conflict with religious nuances is currently commonly found in the lives of Indonesian people. Even though the temples describe the life of the Archipelago in harmony between adherents of religions, one of which is the Jawi Temple. This research aims to dig deeper into the harmony between the Shiva religion (Hindu) and Buddhism in Jawi Temple. A qualitative descriptive approach is an approach used with a constructionist strategy that describes in detail about Jawi Temple which is a symbol of harmonization of Hinduism and Buddhism. Data collected by interview, observation, and documentation. The selection of informants or research subjects was carried out purposively. Evidence that Jawi Temple is a symbol of harmony between Hinduism and Buddhism is that in Jawi Temple there are statues of Hinduism, namely the statues of the God Tri Murti (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva), Lord Ganesha, Goddess Durga, Ardhanari, and Kalki. Besides that, there are mythological animals from Hinduism, namely Kala and Makara. Buddhism is represented by a stupa at the top of the temple and there was once an Aksobhya  statue in Jawi Temple. The relief on Jawi Temple tells of Prince Sutasoma who is proposing to Princess Candrawati. Prince Sutasoma is a prince from the Astina Kingdom of India who is Buddhist but respects Hinduism very much. In the reliefs of Jawi Temple there are also images of Shiva (Hindu) and Buddhist people living peacefully and peacefully while studying together. So, the value that can be taken from Jawi Temple is the strong value of tolerance between Shiva (Hindu) and Buddhist religions. The implication of this research is to strengthen the spirit of tolerance for diversity in Indonesia and one of the factors that determines tolerance in a society is the policies adopted by moderat leaders.

Abstract

Bali has been a model of unique multicultural life, including inter-religious harmony. This study aimed to describe the social interaction of Muslim-Hindu in Kampung Loloan, Jembrana Bali. The type of study was qualitative research, where research data was obtained through literature review, observation, and interviews with Balinese cultural observers and community leaders of Kampung Loloan. The results showed that from the Dutch colonial era (17th century) until the post-reform era, social interaction between Muslims and Hindus in Kampung Loloan experienced ups and downs. In general, social interaction could be sorted into four patterns: (1) social interaction based on kinship (menyamebraya); (2) social interaction based on partnership; (3) social interaction based on the spirit of competition; (4) social interaction based on prejudice. The first, second, and third patterns of social interaction could support the Ajeg Bali movement and the multiculturalism development that strengthened the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Meanwhile, the fourth pattern of social interaction was a latent danger that needed to be anticipated because it could ignite social conflict and reduce national integration.
